Spanish Weather Forecast

If it’s beautiful Spanish climate you’re after, then you’ve come to the right place. In general, over the course of a year, the Spanish coastlines have the warmest climate of any country in Europe. From the beaches at Barcelona, down through the popular resorts of the Costa Blanca, Costa Calida, and Costa del Sol, you’ll be able to enjoy more than 300 days of sunshine each year. Of those areas, Barcelona will usually have most rain, while at the other end of the coast, the Costa del Sol will always be the warmest weather coastline area on mainland Spain.

Places like Marbella and Malaga have what's called a micro-climate because they are ringed by mountain ranges, which keep out the worst of the clouds like a magnet. While the Balearic Islands, which include Ibiza, Majorca and Menorca enjoy weather similar to the Spanish coastline to their west. As you head around the coast towards Portugal, the Costa de la Luz will always feel a little cooler, due to some fairly gusty winds blowing in from the Atlantic Ocean. But if you really want to feel the rays, then head for the Canary Islands - the most southerly of Spain’s territories in this region, and as such, nearest to the Tropic of Cancer cutting through Africa.

Over the year, expect the hottest weather temperatures from May to September, peaking in the mid to high 80s (26 Celsius) while November to March will be the cooler months - though rarely below 60 degrees Fahrenheit (15 Celsius) during the day, even in deepest darkest winter. Of course, there are always a few exceptions to the weather in any region, and the Sierra Nevada mountain range in Granada, in Andalucia, provides some spectacular snowy landscapes, ideal for the winter ski season.

When the weather does turn, it does rain in Spain, you’ll know about it! Thunderous downpours, which are normally all over in an hour or so. It’s not unusual to be absolutely drenched in the morning, and still be able to look forward to fantastic sunshine in the afternoon. Remember, Spain is a huge country, and the weather and climate can vary immensely on any given day from one region to another.
