Situated in the heart of Tarifa’s old quarter, this boutique hotel lies hidden away up a narrow street, a location that means you’re usually out of the wind. Housed in a 200-year old townhouse, El Escondite del Viento has a typical Tarifa architecture – a flat roof, high-ceilings and narrow stairways. The luxury hotel has been restored in harmony with its past and there are many older structural elements remaining such as the white-beamed ceilings. However, the décor couldn’t be more modern with the predominance of light and glass. Enthusiasts of modern design, the owners have a collection of modern furniture displayed throughout the hotel, including a multi-colour Nelson Marshmallow Sofa.

El Escondite del Viento is one of the smallest boutique hotels in Tarifa (and on the Costa de la Luz) and has just six rooms – five double and one triple. All have a long list of extras you would expect from luxury accommodation such as wifi, memory foam mattresses, local homemade soap and super-size towels. Two rooms have private roof terraces where you can contemplate the rooftops and towers of Tarifa.

Gourmet breakfast is included in the price and in season, this boutique hotel also has an in-house restaurant serving local produce. Guests are treated to daily weather forecasts including the speed and direction of the wind in Tarifa, and if this turns out to be too strong to venture out.
