Healthy Living in Andalucia, Spain

There is a huge choice of healthy living options available to both visitors and residents in areas like the Costa del Sol and Andalucia. For a start, the warmer climate is renowned for being beneficial to those with arthritic conditions. More sunshine makes you ‘feel’ more positive and happy. And bathing in the nearby salty sea is said to be conducive to good health, and of course, the food of Andalucia is one of the healthiest aspects of the lives of people who live here. Generous doses of olive oil, fresh fish and vegetables are generally recognized to be good for you, and are all in abundance here.

The average life expectancy in Spain as a whole is just over 76 years for men, and 83 for women. Both of those figures are greater than most other European countries. So the benefits of the lifestyle (and therefore health) in southern Spain, are considerable. But as well as nature’s benefits, there are also man-made reasons why Spain is a healthy place to live. Across the Costas, there are hundreds of spas, fitness centres, health clinics, sports clubs, and of course more alternative treatments, all vying for the attention (and money) of visitors and residents alike. On the Costa del Sol, for example, fitness and health centres like Oxigeno and The Marbella Clinic, play their part in the choice that would-be health enthusiasts have, when it comes to keeping in trim. Publicly funded gymnasiums and fitness classes are also available. Your local town hall will direct you the nearest suitable venue.
