Setting up a business in Spain:
“The difference between setting up a business here and the UK is that here, in Spain, there is a start up cost of around 5,000 euros so you have to be serious about it. You need a lawyer, you need to get the company registered, you need to go to a notary, it’s quite a big legal system to open a company here. Once you do a good job for a client, you can go from there, but the biggest problem here is getting paid! Because they always say come and do the job, you do the job, and suddenly they’ve gone elsewhere. Chasing money is one of the hardest things here. It’s fairly general, and you learn a lot here regarding this, because now when I take on a contract, I make sure I have 50 per cent up front and payment during the job. It’s a very simple rule, follow that and you won’t go wrong. Trust nobody.A lot of the big superstores are open during the whole day now because they realise that the British like to work through, which is good, especially across the Costa del Sol, so we can get what we need now all through the day…”
