In this interview Princess Maria Louise of Prusia, President of Concordia talks about the activities of this charity organization and also about the early days of Marbella. In April 1997 Concordia opened its Day Centre in San Pedro de Alcántara. The Centre´s mission is to carry out a programme of informative and preventive advice campaigns specially designed to halt the advance of HIV infection, and to ensure comprehensive care for AIDS patients.
Here you can listen to the views of someone who has been involved in a charity organisation called Concordia in southern Spain, for many years. It’s a charity concerned with awareness of HIV. Princess Maria Louise of Prusia is the President of the organisation:
“Concordia began with a small group of people, with the idea of creating a welcome house for terminally ill AIDS sufferers because in 1994 there was not the medication that is available nowadays. "To create a physical place, to know where the money was going, and I thought I could thank Marbella in a way for everything that it had given me. Now, we have a day centre, with more than 155 patients who we are caring for, together with their families. We have two cars which are on the road day and night, because we take the sick to hospital for treatment. We want to move forward and do the maximum possible, as there are many people suffering from AIDS here right in front of us in this area. But we know that in Africa there is a catastrophe for the same reason, and just thinking about that makes me feel bad, because we do not do enough to help."
(something about Marbella) "I am attracted to Marbella because of the light, because the light and the scent of the plants is incredible. The air is so clean. And we love the mountain behind the town. The people are so outgoing and friendly, I feel so at home, I could not imagine living anywhere else. I go away some months, but I always come back to Marbella quickly. The 70s and 80s made Marbella famous throughout the world. A lot of very famous shops now have the word ‘Marbella’ in their windows. This is what the pioneers did for Marbella. Here we have everything. Before, we had to go shopping in Gibraltar, but now there is no need for that. The infrastructure and climate are fantastic…”
