Old Town Marbella - By Night

An Authentic Night out in Marbella´s Center

Do as the locals do and get away from the glitz of Puerto Banus and the impersonal large clubs on the Coast and check out the hidden away restaurants, bars and clubs of Marbella's old town! Marbella´s old town still preserves history written on its narrow white-washed streets. It is partly surronded by the ruins of an old Arab wall, there are old churches and at the core is the well-known Orange square which dates back to 1485. Do not hesitate and take a walk in Marbella´s old town.

Places we Love to Eat in the Old Town:

El Estrecho – Open since 1954, this is a real classic with the locals. It's a great place to have a glass of wine accompanied with some fried anchovies or stuffed sweet red peppers and it gets very lively in the evenings.
Messura – a tapas bar with a twist. Don't let the contemporary urban design of this place confuse you. It looks like a designer restaurant but dishes include traditional spanish tapas with a modern take - a real treat.
Querencia Restaurant - One of the best option in marbella´s old town .This charming argentinian restaurant is carefully run by the owners and there is a very friendly athnmosphere. see video

Bars we enjoy in the Old Town:
Tanguito - this bar/ restaurant is located just behind the Orange Square and is a typical townhouse complete with it's own water well! A great place both in summer, due to it's open air patio or in winter, when the fire place is lit. Upstairs is an Argentinean grill serving bbq specialities.
Premiere Club: Popular with locals, Plaza de los Olivos (near the Market).
Zaphir Pub: Nice atmosphere in la Calle Peral
Lolita: Typical Andalucian house in the old town, Calle Peral with Calle Aduar
Suggestions to Stay in the Old Town:
Claude Hotel: 5 stars Small boutique hotel in Marbella old town. Ideal for a luxurious holliday in the core of the town near everything Marbella can offer.
La Villa Marbella: Andalucian-Asian style boutique Hotel at the heart of Marbella´s old town
Hostal Paco: Familar cozy hostel at very good prize. If you find out yourself drunk and happy, stay in Hostal Paco for the night. It is in a pedestrian street in the core of the old town near all the bars!

Marbella By Night

Everyone knows that Marbella is a tourist hot spot for its nightlife… Puerto Banus, world renowned discotheques and funky beach clubs… but what happens if you delve deeper into the heart of this infamous town? You’ll discover there are a lot of treats in store with tons of cool lounge bars, rowdy tapas bars with a twist, not to mention the clubs that can definitely give the tacky tourist macro clubs a run for their money – and that’s without even mentioning that you can expect to pay almost half the price on the drinks!

So, where exactly you might ask yourself? Well in the old town of Marbella of course! Surrounded by old Arabic walls, the Casco Antiguo as it’s known in Spanish is made up of church squares, narrow white washed streets, emblematic historic buildings and plenty of captivating shops and boutiques.

Add the scent of orange blossom and you have the perfect setting to visit all the hip places – all within a stones throw from one another.

Whilst the locals will of course check out the club scene geared towards foreigners, the night usually starts in the centre of town, and below we give you our suggestions for the perfect night out!

First stop – pretty much a classic in Marbella, located on the Calle Peral, Lolita will get you in the mood. Situated in one of the traditional town houses, it has an ample terrace where one can sip a Mojito and watch the world go by whilst listening to some groovy tunes. It has a bit of a surf vibe to it but rest assured the clientele is varied and entertaining!

To warm up – check out Nouba on a quaint square just behind the Marbella’s largest church Iglesia de la Encarnacion – a fairly new joint that reunites all the good qualities a first class bar should have – cute waitresses, loud pop music (albeit sometimes on the tacky side), dim lights and a cool contemporary décor and of course surely doormen.

You should be rearing to go by now! So… go to Bambina! A short walk away, just above the Orange Square, this fairly small bar has more of an intimate club vibe to it – thumping music, great cocktails and a reputation for getting the party started! This one is certainly not for the faint hearted…

Not far away, just one street parallel to Bambina is bar and restaurant Tanguito, you can have a drink in their lovely patio, nicely decorated with huge palm trees in central patio, worthseeing!

For some alternative tunes walk a few hundred metres to the Plaza de Los Olivos to Premier. Also known as a concert venue, this place is at its best from approximately 2 am until 7 am as it’s quite big and can appear empty before then. The music is an eclectic mix of house, alternative, rock and hip hop and its dark enough to dance your self into oblivion!
