Estepona, west Costa del Sol
Sheltered at the foot of the Sierra Bermeja mountains, Estepona is the Costa del Sol's most westerly resort and lies 75 km from Malaga airport and 25km from Marbella. Estepona has succeeded in maintaining its original Andalucian charm and character, yet all the tourist facilities are here also, including hotels, restaurants, leisure, cultural activities, and shops. Estpona's 'old town' is a bustling centre where you will find numerous street cafes and tapas bars still serve traditional Spanish delicacies. The steep cobbled narrow streets seem more suited to horses than cars in this delightful area. If you take time to explore Estepona's old town you will discover the quiet resting place in the centre known as Plaza de las Flores, surrounded by quaint bars and orange trees. Estepona has managed to avoid too many high rise hotels and apartment blocks. The town's present renaissance as a leisure centre, ensures Estepona has a prosperous future. The area boasts some of the best new developments on the coast and has become a fashionable place for both foreign and Spanish residents to acquire a holiday home. The climate of the Estepona area is a big attraction to tourists for it has an average annual temperature of 18.7º. The golf in Estepona is also a major attraction as there are 8 courses in this area alone out of over 40 on the Costa del Sol. The Estepona Marina is situated at the west end of the sea-front promenade. This is a very pleasant place for a stroll. There are also a wide variety of excellent bars and restaurants, open both midday and in the evening while younger revelers can enjoy the late night disco bars. The fishing port is located to the west of the marina. Here you can watch the fishing boats land their catch. The beaches in estepona are very clean and well cared for, in total there is 23km of beutiful sandy beach. Right in the centre of Estepona and the towns most popular beach, La Rada Beach. It is backed by a modern sea front promenade with numerous Chiringuitos (beach bars) located throughout the sea-front and serve traditional fare, such as paella and fresh BBQ sardines, yummy! |
