La Carihuela is a classic on the Spanish Mediterranean. Close to both Torremolinos and Benalmadena, this beach is perfect for families and also for the young and trendy! It has many bars, pubs, clubs and restaurants to offer all types of cuisine, drinks and ambience. All these entertainment and good facilities make it a must!
Well Torremolinos has always had the reputation of being a home away from home on the Costa Del Sol for the British, but in recent years Torremolinos has had a bit of a face lift. Whilst it remains popular with the young crowds looking to party the night away – easy access, tended beaches and lots of bars and restaurants mean that this is also a very popular beach destination for locals and tourists alike.
Along the 9km stretch coast line, one can find La Carihuela - one of the classic beach spots in Torremolinos – it used to be a sleepy fishing village and in fact some of the original Andalucian buildings still stand amidst the high rise hotels in the area.
This is the perfect beach for families as the installations are excellent. There are red cross posts and surveillance posts, although the sea is usually fairly calm. Toilet and shower facilities are in abundance, there are children’s play areas, parking zones - all within walking distance along the Paseo Maritimo from Torremolinos or Benalmadena. The beach’s cleanliness and safety records mean that it has been awarded the European Union Blue Flag various years in a row.
This is certainly a beach for socializing and boasts a large number of beach bars and restaurants. Dotted along the Paseo there is one for every pocket and style! From traditional fresh fish chiringuitos to modern lounge bars serving delicious cocktails there is something here for everyone. Don’t forget that the action doesn’t stop once the sun sets!
But if sport is more your thing then rest assured you won’t be disappointed either. Whether you’re into beach volleyball, jet skiing, windsurfing or pedalo boats there’s something here for everyone!
So whilst this is considered a fairly “urban” beach and can get very busy during the high season, the soft gray sand, sapphire blue sea combined with the plentiful sun beds and umbrella’s make La Carihuela a beach not to miss!
