Salobreña – The Castle by the Sea

Salobreña is a small seaside town on the Tropical Coast. Driving distances are 45 minutes to Granada in the north and around an hour to Sierra Nevada ski resort and Malaga airport to the west.

Salobreña has more than 12,000 inhabitants. Its climate of mild winters, warm summers and low humidity ranks as second healthiest in the world.

Salobreña has a unique situation – this whitewashed town perches on a rocky outcrop crowned by a Moorish castle and overlooks the Mediterranean and vast sugar cane and tropical fruit plantations. The peaks of Sierra Nevada dominate the skyline to the north.

Old Whitewahed Town:
A walk round this attractive town takes in its narrow cobbled streets, all leading up to the 10th century castle. Hidden corners are home to little bars providing welcome refreshment, tapas and an authentic andalusian charm.

Beaches:
Salobreña has 8km of coastline with well-kept beaches. A mixture of shingle and sand covers the little coves and small beaches.

Reef and golf:
Just offshore is an artificial reef where you can go snorkelling and diving to see the variety of marine life. For golfers, there’s an 18-home golf course 5km east of the town.
