Costa Tropical – The Great Escape

The Costa Tropical is east of the Costa del Sol in Granada province. Three airports – Malaga, Granada and Almería – are around an hour’s drive away.

The biggest towns are Motril with 56,000 inhabitants, Almuñécar with 23,000 and La Herradura with 30,000. These populations double in the summer. The Tropical Coast boasts Europe’s healthiest climate with over 320 days of sunshine a year and an average temperature of 20 degrees.

Scenery on the Tropical Coast is spectacular – rugged mountains, backed by the pinnacles of Sierra Nevada, plunge into steep valleys or the sea. Visitors come to escape the crowds and enjoy the coast and countryside.

Beaches & Watersports:
The coastline here has won awards for the quality of its beaches and seawater and the variety of sea life. Marine life and waters are protected. Not surprisingly, this is a top nautical venue with a range of watersports on offer.

Agriculture & Whitewashed Villages:
In this unspoilt area, farming is still very important and the coast gets its name from the tropical fruits grown here. Coastal and inland villages have kept their Andalucian charm with their whitewashed façades, cobbled streets and traditional tapas bars.

History & Attractions:
The area is also rich in historic treasures. For a taste of the past, visit the cave paintings in Nerja, the Roman ruins or Moorish remains.
